Cracking the admissions code at top schools

Gaining admission to top schools is all about packaging. When college-bound students play to their strengths on their applications, they stand a much better chance of being admitted to top schools.

Read college admission consultant Pria Chatterjee's advice. She indicates that there are eight factors that are key in the application process, including family income level and extracurricular activities. A strong GPA alone usually isn't enough to gain admission to an elite college, but Chatterjee warns against appearing to be a "jack of all trades." Rather, students should package themselves to highlight their unique strengths in order to gain a competitive advantage in the application process.
